Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I as the homeowner be an active part of the construction process if I hire you?
A: Regardless of the type of project, you the homeowner are at the center of the building process.  Your wants and needs are always considered thoughout the project.

Q: Are you licensed and registered with the state of Minnesota?
A: Yes. We have been licensed since 1984. These records are available with the Minnesota Department of Labor. We are also fully bonded and insured.

Q: What are a few simple, cost-effective, energy-efficient updates you'd recommend for most homes you work on?
A: There have been leaps and bounds made in the housing industry in making homes more energy efficient. As these products become more widely used, we have seen them become more affordable. For instance, spray foam insulation, while it does add to project costs, is a solid   return-on-investment type of upgrade. Properly sealed homes, in conjuction with properly designed air-exchanging systems, are also a key component of an energy efficient home.

Q: What types of insurance do you carry?
A: Builders liability, worker's compensation, and property damage coverage.

Q: Do you use subcontractors regularly for any part of the construction process?
A: We have a group of subcontractors whom we typically like to use.  We always use licensed and insured plumbers, electricians, and HVAC subcontractors as well as excavators, concrete and masonry contractors.  Occasionally we will also hire insulation and drywall installers.

Q: Do you secure all building permits needed for a job?
A: Yes. We will apply for all permitting and zoning compliance checks for your project. However, if there are any zoning variances that need to be applied for, typically they will need to be in place prior to any permitting. We can assist you with this sometimes-complicated process.

Q: What does the payment schedule look like for your working timeline?
A: All projects are different, and this will vary depending on the size and scope of your project. We typically will request and initial down payment. This will benefit you by allowing us to start procuring material as soon as possible, speeding up the overall project.
